Leading up to the Big Day... : It takes a village. The week before the wedding was a whirlwind of fun and work...but mostly fun. We arrived by ferry on Sunday, June 14th and from then on it was a rockin good time. Thanks to everyone who helped and worked their butts off to make this the event of the season. We couldn't have done it without you.

Special thanks to my Mom, Linda Rohler who worked tirelessly and joyously the whole time. I love you!

Showgirls : Showgirls is a long running tradition in Provincetown, and because Ryan Landry (the director of this famous event) dared me to perform even though I was the bride and had a million things to do, I decided to brave it and sing Black Velvet as "Alotta Miles". If you've never seen Showgirls, you don't know what you are missing. I didn't win the $500 cash prize, but I did have the experience of a lifetime.

The Rehearsal Dinner : What a night! After practicing our Baliwood Dance at the P-Town Inn (oh...and rehearsing for the ceremony too...) we headed off in Pedicabs to our friend Devon's restaurant, aptly named, Devon's. We wined and dined in style. The food was outstanding, the service impeccable and the love flowing.

Special thanks to The Sullivans (Kath & Joe that is...) for hosting this great event!

THE PARTY! : Thank you ALL for sharing this amazing journey with me! It was so wonderful to celebrate with you at the party. What an incredible night!

On a side note, The Naked Cowboy sends his apologies. He called me on Sunday, and because The Grand Ole Opry wouldn't let him perform in his skivvies, he left Nashville early to drive home to see his Mom. Because he was driving, he didn't look at his datebook and forgot to call. He was VERY apologetic.

A lot of you have asked if I am going to keep taking a picture every day. As you can see, I am one who loves to document life. So yes, I will keep taking pictures and sharing them with all of you. But it won't be every day.

If you didn't get to the party, or didn't get a chance to read it there, here is what I wrote about my Picture A Day experience.

What started out as a whim has turned into a project that has inspired me to observe my world through a different lens. The ordinary becomes extraordinary. Speed becomes still. In an era that prides itself on exposing the private self to the public, it’s not a new concept. But it is unique. And it’s been extremely special to me.

I remember the day I decided to embark on this crazy photography journey. It was an unusually balmy, sunny day in February about two weeks before my birthday. I had recently been through a rough patch, but that day I felt a renewed sense of hope and an amazing sense of well being. With the sun at my back and my fellow New Yorkers rushing past, I took my first self-portrait. My shadow. The rest, as they say, is history.

The rules were simple: Take a photo every day. Be the sole photographer. Write about it.

Up close, it’s a day in the life of a 34-year-old woman.
A woman who is outgoing and walks really fast.
A woman who cherishes her friends and loves a rare steak.
A woman who wears her heart on her sleeve and sometimes says too much.
A woman who falls in love with details and always takes the trip.
A woman who has never met a stranger.

Take a step back and it’s a different story. It’s a year that is so much bigger than me.

What I marvel at most is the diversity of my participants - my two-year-old nephew, a famous author, my oldest friend, the man who sells me a donut from his street cart, Woody Allen, my mom, Miss Saturn, strangers in costume, Sigourney Weaver, my boyfriend before I knew I loved him, President Bill Clinton, a bald-headed waitress, a magician, the Naked Cowboy, my 90-year-old grandma. And YOU.

Thank you for sharing this incredible year with me. You listened and taught me something new. You laughed and posed and smiled and posed again. You made me think.
You shared yourself.

My cousin Adam would ask, “Yeah, but what have you learned?”

I’ve learned that a year goes by as quickly as you let it.
I’ve learned that you can fall in love with the right person.
I’ve learned that it’s hard to do something every day.
I’ve learned that Mallomars are my favorite cookie.
I’ve learned to be less judgmental.
I’ve learned to play poker.
I’ve learned that we all need the same things.
I’ve learned to look for the humanity instead of the flaws.
I’ve learned to sit a little stiller.
I’ve learned that the body grows older but the soul stays the same.

THE PARTY!

Thank you ALL for sharing this amazing journey with me! It was so won ...

Lobster on the Deck...Pure HEAVEN. : On a perfect sunny Sunday afternoon, Ayad brought his friend Brett over, who in turn brought four 3-lb lobsters and a few amazing bottles of wine from the south of France. I'd have to say it was probably the best meal we've had on our deck. And we've and plenty of good meals. Thanks Ayad & Brett!

TURKOISE 2007 : Ah...Paradise. Nothing like it.

We had an amazing trip to beautiful Turks & Caicos. Stunning Grace Bay Beach with water so blue you could see your toes. Great food, new friends, exciting adventures on the trapeze, tennis tournaments and lots of reading and relaxing.

I fell in love with flying on the trapeze, and Sean almost won the singles tournament except he had a calf injury! He is getting better, but trust me, he would have won. We drank lots of pina coladas and went snorkling in the clear blue water. We took tennis lessons and I mastered the whip catch on the trapeze! We met new friends from Canada, New York, Florida and France. We shimmied into the night at the disco. I actually got into the trapeze show and performed my whip catch in front of the entire village. It was a week we will remember for a long time.

ROME : Roma...ah Roma...

It's always hard when you first arrive, jetlagged and disoriented...and, well...hot! It was about 30 degrees celsius (that's 90 degrees for you Americans) when we first arrived and I thought we should walk from the train station to our hotel. It's a pleasant, slightly long walk without a bag. With bags, it's a new track & field event. I was proud of our "light" packing jobs (one suitcase and one backpack each) but I was ready to dump half of it about 10 minutes into the walk. Cobblestones are fabulous until you have to roll a suitcase over them. However, the beauty of the streets and the excitement of our new location gave us the push and we landed at The Hotel Grifo.

The hotel was ok, but compared to the rest of the places we stayed it was the worst. But it had airconditioning and those fabulous shutters that every place in Italy has...so we made the best of it, put on our coolest ware and set out. We took a leisurely walk through the lovely streets, stopped for a cocktail and our first of many orders of prosciutto and ended up at The Trevi Fountain. Although not as sexy as in La Dolce Vita (especially with the 100's of tourists in bad t-shirts) it was still so cool. We threw a penny in to assure our return to Rome and headed to have more cocktails in the Campo di Fiori. Rome has a lot of art and even MORE tourists. It amazed us how the piazzas were overrun by postcard sellers and boxer shorts with David's "package" airbrushed on them. But we still had a great time and marveled how in only 8 hours you can be in another world.

The sun always sets and when it did we ate in a lovely little cafe in Trastevere. We walked along the Tiber, watched a tango lesson, bought some trinkets and just drank in a beautiful city on the river...

The next day was even hotter, and despite the fact that we really just wanted to sit under an umbrella and consume (you guessed it) more prosecco, we headed to another country. Vatican City. History called...and we waited the hour to just get inside. Then we walked and walked and walked. With the tourists...you know the ones...with the "I'm With Stupid" t-shirts and the loud voices. We marched single-file through the entire museum searching for The Sistine Chapel. Now, don't get me wrong. It was beautiful. And moving at points. But also hot and LONG. However we made it to the Sistine Chapel (along with Stupid) and it actually was stunning. After a quick visit to the refreshingly airconditioned St. Peter's, we headed home to relax before dinner.

After evening drinks at a neighborhood pub where our bartender Tionia introduced us to a CD of her favorite Italian singer/songwriter, we had a great late dinner in Campo Farnese and then headed to The Spanish Steps at 1am for a nightcap. The Spanish Steps at 1am is like St. Patrick's Cathedral's steps at 1PM. It was packed. Kids drinking wine and playing guitar...men selling roses and (luckily for us) beer! We ordered two Peroni's, sat on the steps and took in the late night social scene of Rome. It was magical. Especially since it was a steamy MONDAY and we were in Rome. When in Rome...

The next day we slept in, bought train tickets to Salerno and then headed off (in a cab) to the train station. The Eurostar sped us towards (what we didn't know at the time) paradise. (The story continues in THE AMALFI COAST gallery...)

THE AMALFI COAST : Sublime. That is the word Sean used over and over again to describe this paradise.

We exited the train station into a sticky Salerno. Because we arrived in the evening, the ferries were no longer running, and we had to take the bus. And what a bus ride it was! The first pictures in this gallery are of the crazy bus ride to Amalfi along the cliffs. The view was breathtaking in more ways that one! An hour and half later and after many twists, turns and honks (to let cars on the blind side of the cliff know we were there!) we arrived at The Hotel Luna Convento.

My boss and friend, John Bonanni recommended this fantastic place. The Luna Convento is an old convent turned into hotel. Our room had three huge windows that opened to a spectacular view of the Mediterranean sea and the tall ships. When we laid in bed, all we could see was the ocean.

We had drinks in the little courtyard filled with lemon trees and then made our way to dinner where we had one of the best tables on the balcony. After befriending our neighboring tables, we learned that Mario, the waiter would hold the same table for you each night. Mario did...and we had our fabulous table every night.

We were thrilled to learn that we happened to book our time in Amalfi during The Festival of Saint Andrea which happens only once a year. On this day, everyone gathers in the main square of the Duamo to watch the statue of St. Andrea be carried down the steps of the cathedral and through town. As you can see from the pictures, old St. Andrew wasn't the lightest fellow on the block. It takes like 15 men to carry this extraordinarily heavy statue down the stairs, through the streets and eventually to the sea where the statue is blessed. We watched the descent on the stairs and then headed back up to our hotel for dinner and fireworks. Thanks to Mario, our table was waiting for us and we wined and dined the night away, watching one of the most amazing fireworks display we've ever seen. Because we were eye level and because there were no obstructions, we had a pefect view of the show. Our new friends from Great Britain made it all the more fun! It was a fantastic night. Sean claims we are going to go back every year for what he calls "Amalfi Day." I'm in.

And then there was the pool. The perfect pool perched on the rocks right on the sea. Every morning Pepe would prepare our chairs, give us towels and flash the most charming smile on the coast. There we would while away the hours reading, swimming in the sea and pool and talking to our new friends from Australia, Glenda & Juliet. A mother and daughter duo, they were vacationing without the boys and were having a grand time. We actually ended up having a lovely dinner with them when our ferry from Positano decided not to stop at Amalfi. With no warning, the ferry just sailed on by leaving us to fend for ourselves back in Salerno. But the four of us made the best of it, shared a cab back to Amalfi and then had a wonderful night dining together. We hope to take them up on their offer and visit them in Australia one day!

Just when we thought the view could not be more spectacular, we took a steep bus ride up the mountain to Ravello. Ravello is a sleepy town, the highest on the Amalfi coast, but also host to an international music festival during the summers. It was the perfect summer night...we walked through Villa Cimbrone, one of the lovliest hotels I've ever seen...dined overlooking a sea vista and listened to an amazing solo pianist play in a secluded courtyard filled with lemon trees. At midnight we took a bus back down the mountain and then lay in bed watching the lights of the moon and the tall ship reflect off the sea...

Everyone raves about Positano, and although it was a stunning place to visit, we were happy that we chose our little homey town of Amalfi. But that being said, we loved our trip to Positano (despite the ferry confusion on the way back). Positano has no cars and is perched on a cliff overlooking the sea. We ferried over, climbed up the mountain and landed at Le Sirenuse, a famous hotel of the rich and famous. Lucky for us...anyone can have a drink there. If you've seen "Only You" with Robert Downey Jr. and Marissa Tomei, you'll recognize it. (We watched a lot of movies about Italy before leaving...) We watched the sun dip over the mountain and sipped martinis and proseccos before heading back down to catch our boat back.

We are counting the days until we can go back...

TUSCANY : Although it was like pulling teeth to leave our sea paradise, we got back on the train and headed to Siena. Or actually Vagliali, the little town 10 kilometers outside of Siena where we stayed.

Getting to Siena from Amalfi was no easy task. We took the ferry from Amalfi to Salerno. Then the train from Salerno to Rome. Once in Rome, we had a quick pizza and then picked up our car (yes a car!) and began the 3 hour drive to Vagliali. Luckily I was able to get one of the last automatics in Italy (I'm the only one who can drive stick) and in Italy they drive on the same side, so once we got started, it was an easy and quite lovely drive into Tuscany.

When planning our trip, I realized that we would be in Italy during the famous Palio in Siena and knew we had to go. So in typical Courtney fashion, I googled and researched until I found Dario Castagno, Tuscany tour guide, author and lover of Il Palio. Because of his kindness and hospitality, we saw Siena and the Palio in a way not many get to see. Not only was he an amazing "tour guide" but he recommended his friend, Francesca's B&B where we stayed and it was truly amazing.

We pulled into Casale San Lorenzo at about 6pm. After a long dirt road, we arrived at the lovely Bed & Breakfast. We were greeted by 3 dogs, Francesca's parents and another couple who were spending their last night at this charming place. Francesca's parents don't speak any english, but that didn't stop her Mom from grabbing my hand and giving me a tour of the place in excited Italian. Everyone was so warm and inviting, that we felt at home immediately. Francesca had recommended the "suite" and it was just stunning. Bigger than most apartments in New York, it had a bathroom to die for, a huge comfortable bed and those windows that make me nuts. (In a good way!) We threw open the shutters and looked out onto to a stunning scene. Those books about Tuscany do not lie...it's exactly how it looks. From our windows we could watch Carlo (her Dad) gardening and the dogs romping. It was better than we imagined.

Francesca was out having a pizza with her man, so we called her on her cell, and agreed to meet her at the little Enoteca in town. Town being a rather large word to use for what it was. Two restaurants, a general store and a view. Francesca and I hit it off immediately. She is one of those women who you connect with despite languate barriers and it was obvious that the warmth of her parents was passed down to her. Because we couldn't speak Italian and because her sweet boyfriend, Miliano couldn't speak English, Francesca translated for the four of us. We had a lovely drink with them and then ate some of the best pasta we'd had yet.

The next day we had an amazing breakfast served just for us (we were the only ones staying there at the time) and then relaxed by the pool for an hour or so. Then we headed off to Castellina in Chianti for lunch. After quite a trip of winding roads (I was driving!) we landed in the sweetest little Tuscan town. We lunched on local Tuscan salamis, cheese and wine. Then we headed back to meet Dario, who was going to take us into Siena for the Palio Rehearsal Dinner! THE STORY CONTINUES IN THE "SIENA & IL PALIO" GALLERY!

The day after the Palio we were tired, but also excited about a "plan free" day to leisurely drive around and see the beautiful countryside. First we headed to Montalcino, home of the famous Brunello. This was one of our favorite meals of the trip! We ate in a wonderful restaurant overlooking the hills and valleys of this magical place. Eight Brunello tastings later, along with a wonderful anchovy dish, delicious local cheese and honey, we were satiated and happy. We shopped and walked and marveled at the beauty.

After a quick lovely visit to S'Antimo, the church made famous by its chanting monks (we didn't get to hear them) we drove up and up until we reached Montepulciano. Although we actually preferred Montalcino, we also adored the steep streets and magnificent views from Montepulciano. We didn't have as much time as we would have liked...the sun was setting and we wanted to make it back before dark...but we had a glass of it's namesake and took in the local flavor.

The next day we slept a bit, ate as much as we could of Francesca's Mom's famous salt bread and said our good-byes. We loved staying at Casale San Lorenzo and would recommend it to anyone! The dogs ran after our car as we turned left and headed towards Florence.

SIENA & IL PALIO : The story continues...

Dario arrived with Big Jim and Marcella in tow. We liked them immediately. Big Jim (we called him that because there was another Jim...not exactly little, but smaller than Big Jim) is a gregarious, fun-loving, teddy bear of a guy who I liked immediately. His wife was so lovely too and we knew it was going to be a fun night! On our way in, we picked up Jim (Little Jim) and Kelly (also both great fun!) and then headed to meet our friend Austin (a friend of a friend from Brooklyn) in a lovely square.

What a night! First of all, Siena is amazing...a truly romantic city and even more incredible during the Palio. And with Dario as our guide, we felt like we lived like a true Sienese. We went to the church where the actual Palio (which is a piece of art, specifically designed for the race) was blessed. Had front row seats (well...stands) to the parade of the horses and watched the final trial race in a great location. I can't even begin to write all the details of Il Palio, but I recommend googling it. But here is the skinny in a nutshell...

There are 17 contradas (neighborhoods) in the city of Siena. All are individually governed, have their own squares and main streets. You must be born into a contrada, which means that many family members are in different contradas, including the children. It is not rare for a child to be in a different contrada than their parents. This means that during the Palio festivities, many of the children must be "babysat" by their contrada as their parents are off partying in another neighborhood. At every Palio (2 a year on July 2nd and August 16th) 10 contradas race. Because their are 17 contradas, the 7 that DON'T race in the previous Palio, are automatically in the following race. This leaves 3 open slots that are picked by lottery.

Dario is a member of the Caterpillar, so we also became honorary members, at least during this Palio. Sean and I were in Amalfi during the choosing of the horses and the first trial races (they actually do trial races BEFORE the actual race) but made it in time for the July 1st trial and rehearsal dinner the night before the palio. Each contrada sets up long tables al fresco in their respective gardens or squares and every member dines and parties until the wee hours of the morning. Thanks to Dario, the 7 of us Americans (who were great fun and now new friends!) had seats at one of these tables and we were able to dine with about 1500 fellow caterpillars. The night was perfect, the food amazing and the wine VERY plentiful. We were there until 4am, then crawled home (thanks to Dario driving) and crashed.

Whoever said that you can't get a hangover in Italy was either lying or had never been to a rehearsal dinner at the Palio. We were in bad shape the next day, and didn't really see or accomplish anything until 4pm when we followed Dario into Siena for the Palio! We met up with Austin and the three of us found a great section of the Campo to watch.

We were amazed by how much space we actually had. Sean and Austin actually laid down and took power naps! It was such an incredible place to be and we will always remember the experience. The race only lasts about a minute and a half, but there are many false starts so it can take up to 45 minutes for the race to even begin! Luckily, it was a little cloudy that day so it wasn't hot and because Dario gave us some tips, we only waited in the square for about 2 hours as opposed to the people who get there at 2pm and waited 6. We wore our Caterpillar scarves and rooted for the yellow and green. Unfortunately, after a lot of controversy, we didn't win. Seems there was some foul play on the jockey's part (he has since been excused from the Caterpillar) and The Goose won the Palio. The members of the goose were as joyous as the Caterpillars were despondent. We said a sad good-bye to Dario and went to drown our sorrows in a fabulous meal right on the Campo. These people don't mess around. The center of the square was nearly clean of the debris by 10pm and the dirt racetrack that was surrounding the campo was filled with outdoor tables and the restaurants all served great meals as the Goose paraded around, with drums and blown-up balloons of pacifiers. (This supposedly signaled a rebirth of the contrada!) We loved that they had 1000's of light up pacifiers ready for their possible victory.

It was fabulous meeting Jim & Kelly, Jim & Marcella...and of course Austin who we hope to see more of in Brooklyn! After a second long night, we drove Jim & Marcella home (after getting lost a few times) and fell into bed.

Thanks to Dario for an incredible Palio experience! Because of him we got to really feel like we were part of this amazing tradition. Siena is a such a beautiful city full of history, faith and passion . We were honored they included us so openly and warmly. Here's to the Caterpillar winning on August 16th!!! (They were one of the three Contradas picked!!!!)

SIENA through AUSTIN'S EYES : We had never met Austin, but a bunch of Sean's good buddies knew him well. When we were at Joe & Heather's wedding, Serge & Harper let us know that Austin was going to be in Siena for the Palio at the same time we were! We contacted him and the rest is history!

When my camera's battery died after filming the Palio, he let me take some shots on his camera. So although he took most of these, some are a collaborative effort.

Thanks for keeping us company, Austin! We hope to see you soon in Brooklyn!

FLORENCE : We had exactly 24 hours in Florence and an absolutely marvelous time. Florence greeted us with sunny skies and confusing streets. But once we actually found our car rental place and dropped off the car (it served us well, but we would not miss it!) we were ready to "do" Florence. Unfortunately (or fortunately as the case may be) we had made reservations for The Uffizi for 4pm. We basically ran from Auto Europe to make it in time. Because we made a reservation, we only had to wait in line for 15 minutes. (Without it can take up to 3 hours!) THAT was the fortunate part. The unfortunate part was that we hadn't eaten since breakfast and my low blood sugar was making me an undesirable companion to say the least. I think at one point in line I was quoted as saying..."I hate art."

Lucky for me I have a patient and kind boyfriend who shuttled me up to the cafeteria in record time. After two glasses of REALLY good red wine and TWO slices of the best lasagna I've ever had (Yes! at the museum cafeteria...we LOVE Italy!) I was beginning to like "art" a little more. It was a beautiful museum, we saw Ms. Venus and then headed out into the perfect summer evening.

We bought "David" statues for the girls at work, visited the Ponte Vecchio, and then wandered back to our fabulous hotel in the perfect location. Sean rested, I shopped and then we changed and headed out to dinner. The hotel (and Rick Steves) recommended a wonderful little restaurant. We sat outside and Sean had the famous Steak Florentine. A bottle of wine later, we met some new friends at the neighboring table and ended up walking together after dinner. Florence is lovely at night. It actually felt a lot like New York City, only prettier. Our new friends took us the famous pig (Il Porcellino) where it is said that if you rub his snout, it will bring you good luck. Another legend compels the visitor to place a coin in the mouth of the pig and if it falls in the slot below you will return to Florence. Sean's went in, so we know we'll be back!

Check out the photos of the woman destroying her sidewalk art! During the day, I took pictures of her creating it, by evening she was washing it away. Florence does not allow you to keep the chalk art on the sidewalk overnight. Very interesting. She was impressive!

We kissed on the Ponte Vecchio in the moonlight and then strolled back to our hotel a little after 1am.

Another breakfast, another train...and we were off to Venice...

VENICE : Venice! The most magical place on earth!

The love affair started the moment we stepped out of the train station and into the waiting vaparetto. What to say about Venice? Other than drop whatever you are doing, grab your lover and book a plane to Venice? It exceeds your wildest expectations. Or at least it did mine. It is full of magic and romance. We are counting the days until we can return.

The hotel we picked got some of the best ratings on travel advisor and well it should. It sits right on the Grande Canal with large windows overlooking a view to die for. The room was lovely and the neighborhood perfect. We only had two nights in Venice (although we desperately tried to stay a third) but we did everything we wanted to do and more...

The first night, we dressed in white and went in search of the best restaurant in Venice, Da Fiore (or so we heard). Little did we know that The New York Times had run an article about this very place on July 1st (the same day we were dining with the Caterpillars) and it was packed. They only had a reservation for 10pm, so we took it! What else do we have to do but eat and drink?!? So we decided to go on one of the famous "pub" crawls before dinner. Have a few drinks, some appetizers and fresh air.

A pub is NOT like a pub here. Smoky, skicky, dark. Here in lovely Venice, it's a small LITERAL hole in the wall that serves scrumptious bites and fabulous wine. Everyone spills out into the piazza to socialize and sip spritzes. We ordered this popular choice, The Spritz, which is similar to a Campari & Soda, but orange. It was way too bitter for me, so I gave mine to Sean and had my old standby, prosecco. What a night! All the local hipsters come out in gangs to drink and be merry and we joined right in. These so called pubs exist after the fish and fruit markets go to bed. Along the canal, friends gather, sit out on the docks and drink wine. It's heaven. Especially when you order the little prosciutto sandwiches.

At about 9:30pm we headed back to Da Fiore for one of the most expensive (and lovely) meals we've ever had. From fellow Americans at the bar, we learned about the Times article and decided to do one of our favorite things; the tasting menu. Hours later, we headed home through the dark side streets of Venice...(Thank GOD for Streetwise Venice!)

The next day was sunny and warm, like all the other 14 days in Italy. We had amazing weather! Sean and I strolled over the Rialto Bridge to San Marco Square. Out of the 225 photos from Venice, I think half of them were taken with our friends the pidgeons. Talk about cheap fun! For 1 euro you can buy a bag of feed, position yourself in the center of the square and commune with these so called flying rats. It was great fun and Sean made a new friend. Check out the pics...there is one pidgeon on this shoulder the entire time. We almost brought him to Burano.

We left the square and started walking, had a lovely lunch on a side canal and then happened on a ferry leaving for Burano. In typical spontaneous Sean fashion, we jumped on! Burano is the smaller of the two islands off of Venice. Murano specializes in blown glass and is the more touristy of the two. Burano is famous for its lace. Most of the lace is hand stitched and specific patterns are passed down through generations. You'll recognize it in the pics as the most colorful place we've visited. It's like a storybook fairy tale. We loved Burano.

That evening we dined alongside the Grande Canal at a table where both of us could face the water. Honestly, we thought it a better meal than the previous night and it was certainly MUCH cheaper. The tuna tartar was incredible, the sun went down and the moon rose over the canal. In the words of my friend Michelle, Venice is outrageous.

When you only have a few days, you make the most of them. Around 11:30pm (after dinner) we walked until we found a gondola on a little side canal. There is nothing like taking a midnight gondola ride with the one you love. During the day, we would see bus loads of tourists packed to the gondola gils. Ours was really something special.

Where there's poker, there's Sean & Courtney. When we heard that there was an actual Casino overlooking the Grande Canal, we had to go! I put on a long gown (ALWAYS carry a long gown that doesn't wrinkle!), Sean borrowed a jacket and we were off. It was 1am and the place was packed. They didn't have traditional poker AND everyone was speaking Italian (Imagine that, in Italy!) so we ended up playing Roulette. At least we knew the Italian words for numbers! I did VERY well and in the end, we came out ahead!

Our last day in Venice was a cloudless day, the perfect end to our perfect trip. After buying our train tickets back to Rome, we headed to a new neighborhood where we dined on crispy pizza and wine. Because there is so much to see and do in Venice, we didn't get to see as much of the Biennale as we would have liked. The Biennale di Venezia is a major contemporary art exhibition that takes place once every two years (in odd years) in Venice, Italy. We did however get to go to the Singapore Pavillion where we got to see some amazing art.

In the late afternoon, we collected our bags, hopped on the vaparetto and caught our last train to Rome. It was hard to say good-bye to Venice, especially with no fountain or pig to assure our return. But our love of the place will surely bring us back.

The train back to Rome was how you dream a train ride from Venice to Rome to be. We ate fresh pasta and cheese in the dining car as we sped past the Italian countryside. Is there anything more romantic than a dining card?

With one last night in Rome, we headed to a sweet little cafe in a square near our hotel. We had one last bottle of prosecco and the ubiquitous plate of prociutto and mozzerella. We watched the locals stay up late, smoke and be social way into the night. Our street had a perfect view of the Colloseum, so we took a late night stroll there. Then we tucked ourselves in for our last night's sleep in this amazing country.

It took us 14 hours to get home as opposed to the normal 8. But after a trip like this, who wants to talk about the bad stuff. We were delayed. We were rerouted to Boston. We had to stay up 23 hours. But it was worth it! We'd do it again in a second!

Ciao!

Venue Searcing in P-Town : Sean and I headed back to P-Town on our way to Joe & KC's wedding. It was a beautiful Saturday morning as we hopped on the 8am ferry. We were eating breakfast by 10am and visiting out future wedding site by 11! Although we looked at two different venues, we knew right away that we loved The Paramount Nightclub at The Crown & Anchor. (Sean claims I'm the crown and he's the anchor.) :) We're so excited and think it's going to just be tons of fun.

On a side note, take a look at the last few pics of the gallery. As we boarded the ferry on Sunday morning, 2 other gentleman did as well. The signs their friends help up to see them off cracked us all up.

Clementine and Kaylor were just joys to be with (so were Matt, Jordan and my Mom), the weather was gorgeous and we coordinated our trip with the P-Town Film Festival. Sean took in 14 films with the highlight being the interview between Quentin Tarantino and John Waters. One of those rare times when you feel like you've been let in on a secret. We got to meet a lot of great people at the festival, especially our new friend Jill who we must have drinks with soon!

Maine, Summer 2008 : Between lazy days at the beach, lobster feasts and the funorama...we lived the life in Maine this summer. Sean and I made the cottage on York Beach our home. Every morning we'd walk down the beach to our favorite breakfast joint with a big front porch on the water. We'd FINISH the Times Crossword every day and then head to the beach to soak up the rays. At night we'd meet Sean's parents for family dinners of fresh fish or we'd head out to one of the fab restaurants in town. We'd always end the night at the funorama...collecting tickets for our prize at the end of the week.

For the 4th, Sean's sister and her boyfriend joined us for fireworks. My Dad and his wife, Ivy joined us a day later to "Meet the Parents". We had a fantastic time...everyone got along great and the delicious lobster dinner didn't hurt.

Thanks to Sean's parents for their neverending generosity and love. We look forward to many more summers on York Beach.

It was a long weekend of fabulous food (the clambake on the beach one of the highlights!) friends and frolicking. I have to say, I was the grand winner of our poker games, which made the trip just a little bit sweeter. Thanks to M&D for their hospitality.

Also check out the video clip at the end. While walking to the clambake with a heavy cooler, some folks in a pick-up truck took pity on us. We hopped in the back and rode the rest of the way. It's one of Smitty's favorites.

Busting Vegas! 2008 : We arrived at The Mandalay Bay just in time to soak up the afternoon rays...at the topless private pool called Moorea. :) Me, being anti tan lines and Sean game, (of course) we paid our admittance fee (his WAY higher than mine) and joined the throngs of partiers dancing to DJ.

That night, we changed into our Vegas best and headed out to see "O" the cirque du soleil show everyone was raving about. We were not disappointed. It was one of the most spectacular shows we've ever seen...and I'm well versed in "spectaculars". After losing some hands at poker, we crashed hard.

The rest of the weekend was pretty much the same. Poker, Moorea Beach Club, walking the strip... On Sunday, the club was less crowded and we got a prime spot at the Moorea where we met another couple and ended up partying with them all night.

Much to our surprise we couldn't get back to New York the next day since we were flying Standby! So back we went to the Mandalay Bay for one more day in the sun and more late night poker. Nothing like being forced to stay in Vegas one day longer. :)

Mayan Paradise 2006 : We are back from paradise...

What an amazing journey. It was an incredible trip filled with beauty, new friends, spiritual awakenings, sunrises and sangria.

The magic of the trip started on the plane. We flew over such beauty that I had to take some shots out of my window. They turned out incredible. I love how you can see the coastline from the air. There is something about flying above the earth that really changes your perspective. It always makes me thoughtful and feel more open. Or at least small. In a good way.

Cancun was nuts as usual, and finally after dealing with an antiquated Thrifty car rental, we were on our way to Tulum. The drive was uneventful, thankfully. Staying in your lane, using turn signals and obeying speed limits are not huge priorities in Mexico. But we got there in one piece and arrived at Copal before dark. I really wanted my mom to see the beach before the sun went down. It's just so gorgeous, it takes your breath away.

For those of you who don't know...I was at Copal last year for my friends Taline & Dan's amazing wedding. It was such an incredible place, that I vowed to bring my Mom back someday. When we were trying to decide where to celebrate her 60th Birthday, it seemed like the place to go.

Our cabana was right on the beach, looking over the ocean. You haven't lived until you have slept hearing the waves crash right outside your door. Copal is an eco-friendly spa that doesn't have electricity in the Cabanas. So our room was lit by candlelight the whole time. The restaurant does have electricity however, so you can always have a cold corona and fresh guacamole. Heaven.

A pattern of life emerged soon after our arrival. My Mom would awaken with the sunrise at 6am. She'd get up, walk the beach, and secure our beach bed for the day. There were five coveted hanging double beds on the beach. They were pure bliss and the early birds got the beds. Thanks to Mom, we had one every day. I'd be up by 7 or 8 and we'd eat breakfast leisurely and then head down to the beach. We were always there by 9am soaking up the rays, reading and watching the surf.

The days were broken up by shopping in the small village nearby, fish tacos on the beach at our favorite restaurant Zamas and relaxing massages in the playa huts.

Tuesday, March 21st was the Equinox, a sacred day in Mayan culture. Because we got the inside scoop from Taline's wedding coordinator and now our friend, Lucretia, we were able to join a Mayan ritual at the Tulum ruins on a cliff overlooking the sea. We were instructed to wear all white, bring an offering and meet the spa's yoga teacher, Maria at 8am at the ruins. We never dreamed the experience would be so spirtual and special. It was mostly in Spanish, so we only got the gist, but knew that we each had to establish an intention for the new birth of Spring. Something we were going to work on, change, help, save, etc. We prayed to the north, south, east and west. We prayed for strength to make changes personally to help change globally. It was incredible. So many nationalities gathering in one spot, praying for peace. Wearing all white. The children were blessed. The offerings were blessed. We brought a beautiful piece of fan coral we found on the beach. We were going to bring it back with us, but thought we should give up what we want to keep. At the end we held we all hugged and then my Mom and I visited the sacred beach. It was truly remarkable.

Days later we met a man named Benito from Argentina selling his jewelry. I thought I recognized him from the ritual, and indeed he was there. He LOVED the pictures and said the couple blowing the conch shells were very close friends of his. The pictures were special to him because they were leaving that night to go back to Costa Rica. Their two children are on the right hand side of the pictures. Beautiful. He beamed when I promised to email him the shots. I love how technology brings us all closer together. He sold me this gorgeous necklace made from a seed. In the seed he carved a tiny gecco. I love it.

We were blessed to meet such amazing people on this trip. At our first breakfast we met Marc Antoine and Natalie from Montreal. They glowed with a zest for life and we adored them immediately. By the second day we were bumping in to them everywhere we went (including the equinox ritual). We took it as a sign and all planned to share my Mom's birthday dinner together. We dined at this fabulous restaurant called Oscar y Lalo. The tables are literally on the sand, the house dog hangs at your feet and the ceviche is so delicious. Before leaving for the restaurant, Marc Antoine and Natalie invited us to share a bottle of wine and olives at our little table outside our cabanas. (We had neighboring cabanas of course) We watched the sun set and they gave my Mom a beautiful small vessel filled with sand and a favorite piece of coral they had collected from our beach. It was a lovely night. My Mom loves to quote Gonzo from the Muppet Movie and say..."Is there a word yet, for old friends, who just met." I think that says it all.

Michael and Randy touched our hearts as well. Unfortunately we met them a day before we were to leave, so we only got to spend one evening with these old souls from the south. Michael is from Atlanta, Randy from Knoxville. Although they live a few hours apart, the love that they have for each other is infectious and pure. Our last night, they treated us to dinner of tequila grilled fish at our fave spot, Zamas. The live band played salsa as we talked for almost 5 hours. We talked about how much we loved Sex & the City and American Idol and how much we hated Bush. We talked about living our truths, practicing the Four Agreements and how important family is to all of us. We talked about how we wanted to see the world, but loved our own backyards. We talked about how fresh the fish was, that we wanted either Mandisa or Chris to win, and that Michael was definitely Carrie, while Randy was a true Miranda. We talked about life. And love. And TV. It was awesome. I told them to come visit New York City sometime. And I meant it.

Then there were the two sisters from Alberta, Canada who made us laugh on the beach. There was the group of girlfriends in their 40's who built a man out of rocks at the surf's edge. Of course my Mom befriended them and made a rock woman so their rock man would not be lonely. The waves washed them away as soon as we completed them. There was the couple getting married on Saturday in the same location that Dan & Taline were wed. They were from Portland, Oregon and were so excited to start their joint lives in this sacred place. We met naked man (what we affectionately called him) and his girlfriend Martha from Connecticut. His name was David and I don't think we ever saw him with clothes. Oh...except when we went to dinner. We almost didn't recognize him. Benito, Manuel and Rafael all made us gorgeous jewelry which we blessed in the sea. Lucretia made our stay easier and warmer. Our waiter at breakfast always knew we wanted dos tes. (Two teas.)

What else can I say? A butterfly played with us for 20 minutes on the morning of my Mom's birth. We wrote messages in the sand for the surf to wash away to the universe. We ate guacamole every day. We slept in a wind storm one night and a thunderstorm the next. We sunbathed topless. We showered by candlelight. We never wore make-up. We never used a hairdryer, but looked fantastic every night. We ate fresh fish by the sea. We never said no.

This was such a great bonding time for my Mom and me. We can't remember the last time we were together for this long, and it was just amazing to get to talk and talk and talk. I think my Mom is the most beautiful she has ever been. She is 60 and looks 40. No one could believe she was my Mom. She has such a youthful, positive energy that infects everyone she touches. She has inspired me to be the woman I am today. Since I was born she has always signed her letters and cards to my sister and me the same way. "Be Happy. Be You." She wrote it in the sand. She wrote it on our hearts. She has believed it can be true, so we have too. Mucho Gracias Mom. And Happy Birthday. To quote a wise woman..."Today is the first day of the rest of your life."

John Roberts' Big 50th Birthday Bash at the Boathouse! : Seldom do you meet someone as charming, classy and fabulous as my dear friend John Roberts. We had the honor and privledge to attend his 50th Birthday Bash. From the second we walked in to the moment we left (laden down with more gifts than we brought) we were wowed, touched and spoiled rotten. With private rowboat rides on the Central Park lake, personalized welcome notes on every person's plate, sailor hats with buttons reminding you to live life to the fullest and gift bags to rival the Oscars...the night was one we won't forget for a long time. John...you are a beautiful person inside and out and I cherish your friendship. Here's to 50 more years!

Norb's 40th! : HAPPY BIRTHDAY NORB! On Monday, January 29...24 hours before Norb actually turned the big 4-0, his fabulous fiancee, Michelle threw him an amazing party! We ate fried chicken, mac & cheese and corn bread. We danced, we sang! Norb treated us to a kickin rendition of Sweet Home Alabama...and I actually got up and sang my old standard...Black Velvet! Nothing like singing with a live band. They were fantastic. It was a great night!

ACCOMPLICE CUZ : On Easter Sunday, Jen Lovejoy and I set out to earn my FBI badge and save my cousin from where he was being held hostage. Well...sort of. Last Christmas, my cousin Adam and his wife Amy gave me the best gift EVER. A sort of solve the mystery scavenger hunt around New York city. It was insprired by my not-so-secret wish to be a crime scene detective and our fabulous fun at Accomplice New York.

We were handed an ipod and told to wait 15 minutes and then follow the directions. From there we were led around the city via pretty hard clues on the ipod and communication via a cellphone by a very firm, slightly British woman from the FBI. (Amy's acting was superb.) They told me that they were holding my cousin Adam captive until I could complete this mission. If I could get to every checkpoint within 90 minutes, I would pass the test, become an FBI agent and my cousin would be released from his torture. (They were torturing him by not allowing him to have wine until I arrived at the final destination. See...the cousins gave up alcohol for Lent, and it was Easter Sunday. He wanted a drink. Bad.)

We did it. We got to every location, took a pic (we were very serious in most of them...because well...crime fighting is serious) and trudged on, hoping against hope that Adam hadn't died a slow death of anti-alcohol poisoning.

The man in the second to last picture is Jason Scott Campbell who we met along the way. He was quite taken with our CUZ hats and wanted to know what they meant. He was extremely excited about the idea, and we told him that maybe...just maybe, if we got to know him...he too, could be part of the CUZ club. We are open to new members. Even strangers we meet on the street. I think that is in the mission statement. Anyway, he is an actor. Check him out at www.jasonscottcampbell.com. Hope to hang out with you soon, Jason. He just MIGHT be our Mr. April.

Once I rescued Adam and we toasted with a glass of red wine, all was well. I haven't had this much fun in awhile. The hunt took to me to places I have been with my cousins. Push, Barnes and Noble, Gramercy Tavern, caroling at Cabrini Hospital and Whole Foods. It's been an amazing year of fun, adventure, laughter and joy. Thanks you guys!

Miss Saturn : Last night I had the honor of attending Chris Martin's birthday extravaganza in Maplewood, NJ. It exceeded my wildest expectations. My friend Rita and I hopped on the NJ Transit and in a mere 37 minutes were transported to a plush landscape that smelled of fresh grass, fireplaces and family.

Laura and Chris have an amazing house, full of warmth and their exuberant personalities. We were welcomed with wine and great food. It has become tradition that you can expect two things on the anniversary of Chris' birth. A tasting of sprirts and a suprise performance. Scotch was enjoyed by all, but Miss Saturn was the hit of night.

I hesitate to put Miss Saturn into words, because she is so much bigger than words. Miss Saturn came dressed in a bubblegum pink prom dress, spoke with a thick russian accent and carried about 12 hula hoops. To our delight she hula hooped in their living room to Dead or Alive's "You Spin Me Round". How appropriate. She affectionately dubbed one of her hoops, "Courtney" much to my suprise. I couldn't have been more honored.

Who knew she could also disrobe while hula hooping? With the help of Brad, her chosen assistant, she unveiled this hidden talent. At the end of her performance, she served up a cake with her picture in frosting on the top.

She left on the 10:52pm train. Supposedly on the way to catch it, she reverted back to her roots...a southern belle from Tennessee. But to us, she will always be the russian sweetheart with hoops of gold.

Happy Birthday Chris!

If you want to check out Miss Saturn, visit her website at...you guessed it! www.misssaturn.com
